WHAT IS IT FOR?

Helping Victorians use less energy.

Victorian Energy Upgrades is a Victorian Government program that helps households and businesses move to more efficient products. It offers discounts on approved upgrades to help reduce energy use and emissions.

For heating and cooling, the focus is approved high-efficiency reverse-cycle air conditioning: systems that provide both heating and cooling. An eligible upgrade may replace an older gas heater or another existing system, depending on the program conditions.

The exact model and installation must qualify. A new gas heater or an evaporative cooler is not the reverse-cycle upgrade described here.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Arrange the discount before the upgrade.

The accredited provider manages the VEU process, directly or through a partner installer.

Check your upgrade

Discuss your existing equipment, home and proposed system. The provider confirms the eligible model and any evidence or removal requirements.

Review the discounted quote

Ask for the VEU discount to be itemised alongside the installation work and final price. Discounts are generally applied upfront, rather than claimed by you afterwards.

Install and complete the paperwork

The provider or its installer completes the agreed work and required documentation. Confirm who handles the VEU paperwork and supplies your installation certificates.

How much could I receive?

There is no single discount for every home. It depends on the upgrade, existing equipment and current program arrangements. Ask each company to confirm the amount in its written quote.

Is replacing a gas heater covered?

Replacing a suitable existing gas heater with an approved efficient reverse-cycle system can be an eligible upgrade. The provider must check the proposed combination and any decommissioning requirements.

Do I apply for the discount myself?

The accredited provider processes the VEU discount, either directly or with its partner installer. Confirm the arrangement before work begins; do not assume a discount can be claimed after installation.

Can I still compare quotes?

Yes. Compare the proposed equipment, complete installation scope, discount and final price. Requesting quotes through this site is free and you do not have to accept a proposal.
