HEATING & COOLING GUIDE

Planning a switch from gas heating to electric

Replacing a gas heater is an opportunity to consider how you want to heat and cool your home over the coming years.

Compare ducted and room-by-room options

Reverse-cycle ducted air conditioning can serve multiple rooms through ducts. Single and multi-head split systems offer other ways to condition selected spaces. Compare the rooms covered, equipment locations, controls and total installed scope.

Check the existing infrastructure

Gas heating ducts may not suit a refrigerated system's design or airflow requirements. Ask about duct replacement, outlet positions, electrical supply, switchboard capacity and how the old gas appliance will be disconnected and removed.

Estimate costs using your circumstances

Actual operating costs depend on equipment efficiency, weather, insulation, energy tariffs and use. If other appliances still use gas, replacing the heater alone may not remove your gas connection charges. Ask for assumptions behind any savings estimate.

Confirm incentive eligibility before proceeding

Program rules, eligible products and incentives can change. Check the official Victorian Energy Upgrades information and ask the provider to confirm eligibility, required evidence and the final price in writing before committing.
